For most of us, when Margot Robbie comes to mind, we think of her signature blonde tresses that we’ve seen in iconic roles like her upcoming Barbie portrayal, her ode to Sharon Tate in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood and Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad.

What might surprise you is that the Babylon actress actually started out her career with darker brunette hair! We’ve collected photos of Robbie’s early acting days and her transition from brunette to blonde, so you can take a look back at her amazing transformation.

4 Stunning Brunette & Blonde Margot Robbie Hair Moments

2011: Lighter Brown Tresses

At a promotional event with her Pan Am cast and co-stars back in 2011, Robbie sported a side-parted, light brown bob.

Her haircut ended right at her shoulders and helped frame her baby-faced features.

2014: Sultry Darker Brown Waves

At the 86th Academy Awards almost ten years ago, Robbie went for a glamorous, Old Hollywood-esque look with a rich, dark brown hue and shiny, slicked-back waves.

The Australian native also went for a side part here and a vampy, memorable lipstick color.

2020: Eye-Catching Blonde Lob

Robbie wore her (now iconic) blonde hair down on the Golden Globe Awards red carpet in 2020, and parted her tresses in the center. This face-framing style and flattering color emphasized her high cheekbones and blue eyes effortlessly.

With even more roles like Tonya Harding, her character in Bombshell and her moments in Wolf of Wall Street, she's much more recognizable and known with her blonder strands.

2023: Elegant Barbie Blonde Curls

As the long-awaited Barbie flick finally hits theaters this week, fans will see Robbie's titular character sport a number of romantic, feminine and blonde hairstyles.

While on the press tour for what many are deeming to be the "movie of the summer," Robbie has pulled off voluminous curls on the red carpet (above), bouncy high ponytails, intricate updos and more.

In a 2014 interview with Elle, Robbie opened up about learning to love blonde hair after having to dye it for a role. "I always dyed it dark in high school," she told the outlet.

She added: "I was devastated when I had to go blond." However, in the year since, Robbie began embracing the new color and realizing how it suited her and the roles she wanted to pursue. "Once I was blond for a couple of years, I ended up loving it. But I don't have a preference. I like both," she said.

Overall, we think she looks just as gorgeous as a brunette as she does with her usual blonde color!
