Whether you are trying to lose weight, maintain weight or turn fat into muscle, a healthy diet is an essential step to ensuring progress. Many people tend to focus on which foods they should cut out, rather than which foods you should add to your diet. And according to dietitians, there is one everyday food that you should incorporate into your meals and snacks whenever possible: eggs.

“Eggs are a unique animal sourced food in that they are nutrient dense rather than calorie dense,” Trista Best, a Registered Dietitian at Balance One Supplements, told SheFinds. “This means they are low in calorie but high in rich nutrients including vitamins, minerals, protein, and healthy fats. This makes them an ideal weight loss food, depending on how they are prepared. Their healthy fats make them helpful in reducing inflammation, which can lead to a significant difference on the scale.”

Best continued, “It is best to prepare eggs without added fat, oil, or cheese for them to retain their weight loss benefits. Pouched and boiled eggs are the best methods to ensure they keep their nutrient density.”

Following Best’s recommendation, we’ve found egg recipes with minimal amounts of added fats to try out this week:
