When cooking your eggs in the morning for weight loss, registered dietitian Lisa R. Young advises avoiding an overload of cheese in your daily frittata or scramble. She explains, “Eggs are a great food for weight loss and contain protein which will make you full. Cheese, however, is high in fat and very caloric.” If you’re not measuring your cheese, your breakfast can easily skyrocket in calories and tip into unhealthy territory without a second thought.

If you’re looking for some add-ons to your egg breakfast, Young suggests including vegetables in your dish to increase the density of the meal and keep you full and satisfied. Your goal for vegetable consumption throughout the day should be 2-2.5 cups, so get a headstart in the morning and scramble some onions, peppers and mushrooms into your eggs for extra flavor.

In moderation, cheese can be a valuable and delicious addition to any meal. However, it’s important to be cognisant of the serving size and make sure not to overload what could be a healthy meal with an abundance of calories that could be allocated to later meals in the day. If you do choose to add some cheese into your breakfast, strive to keep to it every few days so as not to make it a habit. Weight loss is about making sustainable changes instead of deprivation, so if cheese brings joy to your morning, find ways to fit it into your eating plan by compromising another unhealthy addition, like bidding your sugary coffee farewell.

Eggs are a wonderful addition to your lineup of healthy meals for weight loss, and depending on the preparation they can provide you with an abundance of nutrients to keep you full and satisfied without sacrificing flavor. If you’re a cheese fanatic, be aware of the serving size and make sure not to overload your omelette or scramble, instead opting for a smaller portion and a handful of vegetables.
