It’s Official! Eggs Now Cost 70% More And The Prices Are Still Going Up

The prices of eggs in grocery stores nationwide continue to go up, and according to recent inflation data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this isn’t going to stop any time soon. Here’s what we know:

In January, egg prices across the US rose 8.5% compared to the month before, according to the new data, as CNN reports. Since the first month of 2023, egg prices soared 70.1%.
This, as the outlet points out, is largely due to a deadly, contagious and devastating avian flu outbreak that constrained the national egg supply.

In the wholesale market, the publication points out that egg prices “hit a record peak in December 2022” and have been “steadily falling” since then.
Those declines, however, haven’t reached consumers, as seen in January 2023’s numbers. Ultimately, compared to other grocery items lately, egg prices “rose most dramatically,” as many grocery shoppers will agree.
