Ellen DeGeneres has returned to her hosting duties on The Ellen Show, and the 62-year-old recently revealed exactly how she found out she had tested positive for coronavirus.
DeGeneres joked that she announced the news with a quip, “Obviously there are a lot of negative things going on, so I wanted to talk about something positive: my COVID test.”
Although we doubt those were Ellen's exact words at the time, her story did give audiences more insight into how she felt when she first heard the news.
Apparently, the host found out she tested positive while in hair and makeup. After her assistant shared the news, Ellen claimed they "ran away."
She explained, "And then everyone around me ran away. It's funny, people just really get scared. They ran and some have not come back since."
On a more serious note, DeGeneres explained that she left the studio right away after finding out about her positive test.
"I left the studio immediately and our COVID safety team informed everyone that I had been in contact with... I went home, obviously," the host explained. "I had to quarantine. Portia [de Rossi] made me sleep in a different room, in a different bed."
As for her symptoms, Ellen explained that the first three days she was feeling severely fatigued, sleeping up to "16 hours a day."
On her fourth day of symptoms, the back pain started. "I woke up with back spasms," she explained.
Despite pain killers and muscle relaxers, the pain persisted. Ellen said the medications "did not help. My back got worse. It felt like I cracked a rib."
Fortunately, DeGeneres is feeling fully recovered now. "I’m fine now," she said. "Everything’s good. I’m all clear."
Ellen added, "I’m very, very fortunate. Very, very blessed. That was it for me. I still don’t know where I got it. I wear a mask. I wash my hands... I know a lot of people out there are struggling right now. My heart goes out to all of them."
