In truth, DeGeneres and de Rossi sold their Beverly Hills home, and Cox offered her home as a temporary residence.
The couple, who have been married since 2008, have bought and sold about 20 properties together since 2003.
DeGeneres even published a coffee table-style book recounting her history of renovating and decorating homes for the past 25 years. The book is called Home, and even includes photographs of some of the properties the couple has shared.
Cox appeared as a guest on The Ellen Show last week, and the two women shared details of their living situation with fans.
DeGeneres asked Cox how she is doing as a roommate, to which Cox replied, “Let's put it this way: you’re my style guru, so I was nervous about you staying there, being that I haven’t redone it. I haven’t been there in a year. I had it cleaned. I moved everything off of the right side of the bathroom, so you’d have your space in the drawers. I was just really ready for you.”
Cox then noted that the next time she looked through the bathroom, she noticed that things were placed in different spots.
“And all of the sudden it was like, ‘Wait a minute. Ellen’s toothbrush is on my side!’ I had her open the drawer and I was like, ‘Well, where’s my makeup?' So essentially you’re a terrible roommate. You took over my side and your side," Cox said with a laugh.
DeGeneres blamed de Rossi for taking over Cox's bathroom.
"No, that was Portia who took over your side!" DeGeneres said. "I only have one side and she happened to be there one night."
Then to add some humor into the mix, DeGeneres aired a video she had taken on her phone from Cox's house the previous night. In it, she reveals some secrets she uncovered about Cox from going through cabinets in the house.
While searching for office supplies, DeGeneres found a box containing "undies for two" and a puppet that seemingly looks like DeGeneres herself.
Whether these items were planted by DeGeneres for comedic effect reamins up for debate.
