Elon Musk‘s daughter Vivian, 18, wants to distance herself from her father as much as she can. According to court documents obtained by TMZ and filed in Los Angeles County by Musk’s child, she is petitioning to remove “Musk” from her name and be known as Vivian Jenna Wilson (taking the maiden name of her mother, Musk’s ex-wife, Justine).

Vivian is also allegedly legally changing her gender identity at the same time. TMZ reported that amid her transition, Vivian wants to cut all ties with her father, starting with the surname she was given at birth. The filing states that Vivian’s decision is the result of her gender identity, and, as she said, “the fact that I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form.”

While Vivian and Elon have never publicly addressed or spoken about their current relationship or Vivian’s gender identity and transition, many suspect that the SpaceX founder’s past comments regarding inclusive language might be an inkling to their potential disagreements. In December 2020, as many might recall, Elon previously tweeted about his supposed support for the trans community yet he has mocked people in the past who put pronouns in their Twitter bios. At the time, the billionaire wrote that “all these pronouns are an esthetic nightmare” and also stated that “pronouns suck.” His then-partner, musician Grimes wrote in response, “I love you but please turn off ur phone or give me a [call]. I cannot support hate. Please stop this. I know this isn’t your heart.” Elon recently showed a less-than-supportive attitude toward the LGBT community again after sharing a transphobic meme in what many interpreted to be an attempt to make fun of Chelsea Manning.Vivian’s parents are Elon and ex-wife Justine Wilson, and they were married from 2000 to 2008. Vivian is not the only child of the couple, as she has a twin brother named Griffin. Both siblings turned 18 back in April. This Thursday, June 23, a court granted Vivian’s name and gender change to match her chosen identity ahead of the hearing that was originally scheduled for Friday, June 24.
