Though some social media users have argued that Emily's facial changes are simply due to makeup, lighting, and natural aging, many others as of late have speculated that she has had plastic surgery—including the trendy "buccal fat removal" treatment, which many stars have allegedly been getting to sculpt their faces and emphasize cheekbones.
In an interview with Refinery29 this past January, the supermodel denied ever going under the knife: "No. I have a particular face and look and don't like the idea of messing with it. But I like Botox," Emily said. However, some think that the model has had more than just an injection here and there.
In the comment section of a side-by-side image of EmRata from early in her career versus now posted on the Instagram page @celebrityplastics, followers debated whether the stunner had undergone plastic surgery, especially highlighting recent images of the Gone Girl actress where her face looked much thinner, with more hollowed-out cheeks. "She had a really beautiful face before but now she looks way older..." said one commenter. Others agreed: "Soooo much prettier before"; "Better before"; "She was so beautiful before. Still beautiful now but she didn't need all this," wrote several Instagram users.

Aesthetic nurse and plastic surgery expert Sarah Louise made a TikTok video earlier this year also speculating about the star's possible plastic surgery procedures, comparing recent red carpet photos of Emily to images from her early career.

Addressing her video to Emily, Louise said, "You are absolutely incredible and your transformation has been so minor, with little 'tweakments' in all the right areas...Your nose by the way is incredible. Your chin and your lips are so balanced." The TikToker added that, in her opinion, the model may have had plastic surgery on her nose, chin, and lip areas. It seems, though, the more sculpted cheeks are a newer change to Emily's image—and that has kicked off more social media speculation about the star's other possible procedures that she hasn't admitted to.
One Instagrammer had a good perspective on the whole situation: "Doesn’t matter what anyone thinks as long as the individual is happy," they wrote.
