Emily Ratajkowski is quite the jack-of-all-trades. Besides being a model, actress, author, and businesswoman, she’s renowned for her stunning looks and incredibly fit physique. Thanks to her generous swimsuit posts, it’s clear Emily has maintained a toned tummy even after becoming a mother. Her health and fitness routine seem to be doing wonders!

However, with the arrival of warm weather, sometimes you crave a morning drink that hydrates and nourishes your body without all the excess sugar found in many beverages. In an interview with The New York Times, the runway model disclosed her love for a refreshing turmeric and beet juice.

“For me, it’s about feeling good about what you eat. I do love turmeric and beet juices. It’s so L.A., you can’t avoid it,” she revealed.

So, how does a spice like turmeric and a vegetable like beets help keep you fit and toned?

Turmeric

Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, possesses powerful anti-inflammatory properties that can help alleviate digestive discomfort and bloating by soothing inflammation in the GI tract. Furthermore, curcumin has been shown to support weight loss by promoting fat metabolism, enhancing insulin sensitivity, and reducing the accumulation of visceral fat.

“[Turmeric] is a natural anti-inflammatory and it will help prevent bloating,” registered nurse Krista Elkins shares. This vibrant spice can help you reach your weight loss goals and she points out that it “may promote weight loss by improving your body’s ability to use insulin.”

Beets

Beets are rich in essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, which can help improve blood pressure, boost stamina, and support liver function. Drinking beet juice is a convenient way to enjoy these benefits, as it’s high in nitrates that promote better blood flow and oxygen delivery to your muscles. Incorporating beets into your diet can also aid in digestion, enhance skin health, and provide a natural energy boost.

“Beetroot boosts nitric oxide production, enhancing blood flow to the brain,” dietitian Krutika Nanavati notes.

To make turmeric and beet juice, start by gathering your ingredients: a medium-sized beet (peeled and chopped), a small piece of fresh turmeric root (about 1 inch, peeled and chopped), 1-2 carrots (optional, for sweetness and extra nutrients), the juice of 1-2 oranges or lemons, and 1-2 cups of water or coconut water. Once you have everything ready, add the chopped beet, turmeric, carrots, and citrus juice to a blender. Pour in the water or coconut water and blend until smooth and well combined. If the consistency is too thick, you can adjust by adding more water. Strain the juice using a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove any pulp, then pour it into glasses. You can garnish with a slice of citrus or fresh mint for an extra touch.
