Everyone knows that McDonald’s is not known for having healthy foods on its menu. The popular fast food chain serves as a guilty-pleasure indulgence for so many of us – a great place to order from when you want to treat yourself to something you’re really craving. But be careful next time you go to McDonald’s, because there are some things on their menu that are really unhealthy – and not just because they’re fattening.
Milkshakes are never a healthy snack, no matter where you get them. Made from ice cream, milk and sometimes added ingredients like chocolate syrup, this frozen dessert is never going to be good for you.
A medium-sized chocolate milkshake from McDonald’s has 630 calories, 89 grams of sugar and 17 grams of fat - 11 grams of which are saturated fat. This is extremely bad for you - but it’s still not the reason why McDonald’s employees say you should never order the milkshakes.
A McDonald’s employee shared online that the milkshake machines aren’t cleaned daily, and that it can get pretty gross if you order a milkshake at the wrong time.
The employee explained, “The milkshake machine on the other hand is not cleaned every day. It is cleaned bi-weekly and every night it just heats up the milk contents so that it kills off the bacteria in the milk. The nozzles are not cleaned properly, nor are the dispensers save for the bi-weekly cleanings. It gets caked on and reminds me of icing sugar on the wall.”
