Jennifer Lopez is no stranger to the whispers and murmurs of photo-editing and filter accusations when it comes to her Instagram snapshots.
Over the weekend, the Atlas actress, 54, posted a trio of glowing selfies, showcasing herself in a white tank top, with bold, winged black eyeliner, sky-high lashes, a generous sweep of rosy blush, and lips adorned with overlined, shiny pink gloss.
As soon as these selfies hit the ‘Gram, fans flocked to the comments to share their two cents. Many admitted they had to do a “double take,” with some even calling her fresh look “unrecognizable.”
Jennifer Lopez's Fans Do A Double Take As She Allegedly Shares 'Filtered' And 'Edited' New Instagram Selfies
On July 20th, the "On the Floor" singer captioned her 3-part post: "Today is gonna be a great day. Happy Saturday everybody." Fans headed to the comments section to share their thoughts. "You look 16," one wrote regarding Lopez's "ageless" complexion as another added: "you look amazing."
Pop culture publication Page Six also shared screenshots of Lopez's new selfies in another IG post that same day, and fans in that comments section "struggled" to recognize the Marry Me star. "She is unrecognizable on those pics," one wrote as another added: "The filter she’s using makes her look younger that’s why she’s happy." Someone else replied: "She's happy cuz that makeup and filter make her look 34yrs old." One other noted: "Holy filters!!!!"
Though Lopez hasn't addressed the latest claims of filters and photo editing, this isn't her first rodeo with accusations of digitally enhancing her looks for social media snaps. Back in February, many fans on TikTok were “shocked” to see a clip of Lopez allegedly “without a filter.”
The “If You Had My Love” singer made some fans look twice in disbelief when she sat down for an interview with Entertainment Tonight to promote her multimedia project, This Is Me… Now. After the outlet shared a clip of Lopez discussing her new film and studio album on TikTok, viewers noticed that the mom of two had a minimal makeup look, with some thinking she looked “unrecognizable” and “different.”
In the video, Lopez spoke candidly about her on-again, off-again relationship with her now husband, Ben Affleck, and some fans speculated that her tone and appearance were a result of him “aging” her.
The interviewer asked Lopez about her 2002 album: “This Is Me…Then was released over 20 years ago — what was it like reflecting back on that time and then reuniting with Ben [Affleck] and being inspired to do more new music?”

The “Jenny From The Block” artist replied: “When Ben and I got back together, it was just like ‘I want to make music again and I want to get back in the studio.'” The Marry Me star added: “I was very very inspired. The same way This Is Me…Then captured that moment in time without me realizing it, the first time we fell in love, I wanted to capture this moment in time.”
For the interview, Lopez donned a sleek black, long-sleeved, turtleneck top, a matching fedora and shiny gold hoop earrings. As for her glam, she wore her signature caramel-colored tresses in an elegant ponytail beneath her hat. For her makeup, the JLo Beauty mogul sported a more minimal eye look with subtle gray eyeshadow, rosy blush on her high cheekbones and a glossy pink pout.
Fans headed to the post’s comments section to share their thoughts. “I feel like she did her own makeup…. Like she didn’t even put on lashes or at least mascara… like she tried it!” one wrote as another added: “I like seeing these interviews with not a lot of makeup or filter and seeing her naturally age.” Someone else replied: “I didn’t recognize her at first” as one other concurred: “I didn’t recognize her at first.”
Last summer, the multi-hyphenate was also accused of using “heavy filters” and “blurring” her skin in an Instagram video post in which she talked about her brand’s new creams, serums and balms. “Guys I’m so excited, look what I woke up to today,” she said to the camera last June as she seemed to have no makeup on, was wearing a robe, and styled her hair in a slicked-back updo.

She held up several products so fans could see the smaller, travel and trial-size versions. The mom of two compared the smaller versions to the larger ones, stressing that they could be brought anywhere and serve as a great way to try out any particular serum, balm, etc. before buying it in bulk. “I promise you will love these products, I’m going to use them right now,” Lopez said before signing off with a smile, “okay, bye.”
She captioned her video post: “Our newest little babies have arrived!!!! @JLoBeauty Ultimate Body Trio minis.” She added starry-eyed and sparkle emojis before writing: “Just dropped on JLoBeauty.com … Get yours today!”
While some fans in the comment section also shared their excitement in seeing the new product sizes, more began to criticize Lopez for appearing to use filters on her skin while attempting to promote skincare products.
“Girl you have a fuzzy filter on, ain’t nobody taking skin advice from you,” one wrote with a laughing emoji as another replied: “Ok JLo, but slow down with the filters ok?” Someone else chimed in with a similar sentiment: “Still with the filters???”
Another wrote: “Boo, why are you need those heavy filters to promote your skin care? This is not fair to your fans” as one other fan expressed with disappointment: “As beautiful as you are, I don’t appreciate beauty brands with filters on.”
One asked Lopez to “just stop” using filters as others noted they were “confused” as to why she’d use them when she has proven to have “naturally beautiful” skin in the past. “Jennifer you have beautiful skin naturally please remove the filters off your posts especially these or people will be under the impression the products don’t work as I’m sure they do,” someone added. Another commented: “The filter I can’t.”
Back in February 2023, her TikTok followers said that a filter she was using appeared to glitch, exposing natural fine lines and wrinkles on her face before blurring them again when the filter resumed.
This came months after Lopez denied ever using Botox and credited olive oil for her glowing, dewy and youthful skin. One fan commented under her TikTok Body Armor post collab: “When she tells everyone it’s olive oil and it’s really a filter.”
