Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness ended their 27-year marriage in September 2023. Rumors are swirling that Jackman, 56, is currently dating Sutton Foster, a longtime close friend he bonded with during their time in the 2022 Broadway revival of The Music Man.

According to an insider quoted in last week’s cover story of Us Weekly, the X-Men actor‘s connection with Foster, 49, played a significant role in his split from Furness, 68. Fans on Instagram have had largely negative reactions, with some expressing “disappointment” in Jackman and others feeling that Furness “deserved better.”

Back in September 2023, the Greatest Showman star and Correlli actress (who share son Oscar, 23, and daughter Ava, 19) released a joint statement about their split. It read: “We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.”

Hugh Jackman Fans 'Shocked' After Insiders Say His Sutton Foster Relationship Was 'The Reason' Behind Deborra-Lee Furness Divorce

They continued: "Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives." In October 2024, a year later, reports emerged that Foster had initiated divorce proceedings against her husband of a decade, Ted Griffin.

Last month, a source notably dished to Page Six that Jackman and Foster "are 100 percent together and are in love and want to spend the rest of their lives together." Now, a month later, Us Weekly released a shocking report suggesting that the Deadpool & Wolverine star and Younger alum's supposed affair is the "reason" behind his decision to file for divorce from Furness. Their insider claims that Jackman and Foster began their relationship while working on The Music Man.

"Sutton and Hugh’s relationship is the reason Hugh and Deb got divorced," the insider told the outlet. They added: "A lot of people on Broadway knew, and we kept it quiet because both of them are so nice and great people. Everyone respected their privacy. But there was an affair and overlap. They are really happy now."

The source went on to say that Jackman and Foster (who shares daughter Emily, 7, with her ex husband Griffin) "don’t live together because of their kids." The tipster also revealed: "Sutton has told people on Broadway about the relationship. Everyone [there] has known about this for a long time."

In October, gossip blogger Tasha Lustig claimed that Jackman had "blindsided" Furness with his alleged Foster affair in a social media post. Us Weekly then reported that Furness "liked" the upload, writing: "Furness "liked" the post from her private Instagram account, which appeared to give confirmation to the initial claim."

The publication added: "Us Weekly has seen the "like," which is only visible to people Furness follows on the platform. Fans do not have access to Furness’ social media profile, which boasts just under 400 followers, as she appears to be selective about who gets accepted."

In an Instagram post for its 5.1 million followers, Us Weekly also shared a photo of Jackman and Furness and used a quote from an insider as a caption, reading: "I think many people were shocked [Hugh] could do this to her, especially as she's the mother of his children, and they've navigated three decades of life together."

Fans headed to the November 13th comments section to share their thoughts. One wrote: "Unbelievable. So sad for her. He lost a lot of respect from me." Another added: "I’m shocked by this and was even more shocked by their divorce!" Someone else chimed in: "This makes me look at him much differently. Cheating on your wife and disrespecting her like that takes a callous man. She deserved better."

As the insider mentioned in the post told Us: "Deborra-Lee was blindsided when she found out about the affair through the run of the show." They were referring to The Music Man, where Jackman and Foster shared the stage in 2022. "It was apparently Broadway’s worst-kept secret, and Deborra-Lee was the last to know," they went on.

Furness has begun to move forward, reigniting her acting career with a significant comeback. She took on a leading role in Force of Nature: The Dry 2, which debuted in February. Despite acknowledging the anxiety of returning to the screen, she told The Daily Telegraph that she is prepared for what lies ahead. "You know what, change, transition, evolution is a little frightening and we are all a bit scared of it, but I think it is probably our greatest gift," she said, adding: "It is kind of exciting."
