As a triple threat performer, Julianne Hough is no stranger to an epic costume— whether for a number on Dancing With The Stars, a televised live rendition of Chicago, or for her current Broadway role as Dusty on the new show, POTUS that recently premiered last month. Hough just shared a video with her 5 million Instagram followers that shows us how she gets ready for her performances and the many steps she undergoes to secure a copper-colored, red wig for her character. Wow!
“Transforming into Dusty,” she wrote in her caption as the clip shows her tuck her blonde locks into bobby pins and then under a hairnet to put the wig on and secure it. The plot of the show, POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumb*ss Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive (often abbreviated as POTUS) centers around 7 female staffers who attempt to keep the President out of trouble as a PR disaster occurs for The White House. Hough portrays Dusty for her Broadway debut, who she dubbed a “sex positive ‘ditzy’ farm girl from a swing state” in another post.

Fans immediately headed to Hough’s comment section to share their thoughts on her ‘get ready with me’ video and marveled at the “intense process” she often goes through for hair that looks “very similar” to her own texture. “Holy cow! What a process! How long did this take?!” asked one user while another who had seen the show added, “omg I thought this was your real hair!” Others (who summed up our exact thoughts) dropped a few heart-eye emojis at the final product, adding that Hough looks “gorgeous with any hair color.” We couldn’t agree more!
In light of the Supreme Court leak of a draft opinion that would strike down Roe v. Wade earlier this week, Hough shared on Instagram how fans reacted to one particular line from her character in the live shows since then. She shared a clip of her performance on Wednesday night and showed how she received a standing ovation. “To deliver this line ‘I volunteer at a clinic back in Iowa. Affordable, safe reproductive health care is a basic human right’ feels as though I get the opportunity to channel the very voice of our country at this moment,” she wrote in her caption. “It is humbling and empowering how live theater expands minds and hearts in real time!”

She also explained how she was “instantly drawn to the role” of Dusty and performs with the POTUS cast (and seemingly undergoes that lengthy transformation) 8 times a week. “I have always been honored to be a part of this company and to perform in POTUS 8 times a week, but even more so now than ever,” she wrote.
