Taylor Swift‘s ability to surprise her fans with clever Easter eggs, puzzles, and clues hidden within her music, album art, and promotional campaigns has long been a source of awe. Over the past week, a video interview from 2008 has resurfaced, showcasing Swift’s foresight in naming her 2024 song “But Daddy I Love Him,” which she released 16 years after the interview.

This has sparked a wave of admiration on X (formerly Twitter), with many praising the Grammy winner, 34, as a “mastermind” and “genius” for her impressive coincidence or possibly planned connection between the past and present. It’s clear that the hitmaker’s creativity and attention to detail have once again captivated Swifties.

Taylor Swift Seemingly Mentions Her 2024 Song During A 2008 Resurfaced Interview: See The Viral Clip

On April 19th, Swift released her long-awaited eleventh studio album, The Tortured Poets Department. The record’s sixth track is titled, “But Daddy I Love Him,” and features an infectious melody, swirling backing synths and pulsating beats. Swift’s lyrics paint the picture of someone hopelessly in love with another person, even though everyone else is against their relationship.

Ever since its debut, fans have been speculating that the song revolves around the constant intrusion into Swift’s personal life, drawing comparisons between the critical gaze of the public towards her relationships and the overbearing nature of controlling parental figures.

Long before Swift released the aforementioned tune, she revealed in a 2008 interview with Popsugar that she once said to her father, "but daddy I love him" during an "epic teenage tantrum." The interview that has resurfaced and got fans marveling features Swift dishing out details about how she came to write the hit track "Love Story" for her Fearless album at the time.

Apparently, after having a disagreement with her father about her then beau, Swift was inspired to put pen to paper and immortalize her love story through song.

"I remember screaming something like 'But daddy, I love him!' and running out and storming into my room and slamming the door," Swift said in the now viral video. She added: "Then I sat down on the floor and wrote this song."

Now, over a decade later, Swift sings on her 2024 track: "Now I'm running with my dress unbuttoned / Screaming 'But Daddy I love him.'" Fans headed to X to share their thoughts on the old video and how it connects to her recent release.

"She’s a mastermind," one tweeted as another deemed the "Anti-Hero" singer to be a "lyrical genius." Someone else added: "she was just so ahead of her time." One other Swiftie expressed: "Taymind is minding."

Back in February, when "But Daddy I Love Him" was revealed along with her other Tortured Poets Department track list titles, many fans were quick to draw parallels between the song and the classic 1989 Disney movie, The Little Mermaid

In one iconic scene from the animated film, mermaid Ariel tells her father King Triton, "But Daddy I love him," after he discovers her desire to be with a human, Prince Eric.

Another fact that made fans link the film to Swift's track title is that The Little Mermaid came out the same year Swift was born. The year 1989, as fans know, is very significant to Swift, and is the name of her fifth studio album, released in 2014.

Swift has yet to respond to these fan reactions or share any further details on the meaning behind her new track. However, she did add "But Daddy I Love Him" to the setlist for her Eras Tour when when her string of concerts resumed in Paris during the May 9th show.

The pop star's next concert for the tour will take place in Liverpool, England at the Anfield Stadium on June 13th.
