Trouble in paradise? The internet is going wild this week after a clip of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck at the Grammys seemingly arguing went viral (and thousands continue to debate what the newlyweds appear to be saying to each other).
On February 5th, the couple attended the 65th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony and sat together at a table in the center of the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. As the camera zoomed in on host Trevor Noah in one moment while he was making a joke, fans could see Lopez, 53, and Affleck, 50, beside the comedian, having what looked to be a tense conversation.

When the Shotgun Wedding star and Justice League alum noticed that the camera was on them, they then both had straight faces and quickly smiled, leading some fans on Twitter “convinced that they were fighting before,” as one wrote. As for what the newlyweds were discussing, Twitter users, of course, have several theories.
One user guessed that Bennifer were play-fighting, tweeting, “He says he’s going to do something (probably a prank or something), and then she says, “Don’t do it. Don’t do it!” And he’s teasing like, “Why?”” (Pretty convincing!) Someone else thought he might have replied “relax.”
Another added, “It was a set up. Part of the show,” as more fans theorized that “she told him no drinks” and he “got mad” consequently. As the awards show went on Sunday night, many social media users began making memes with Affleck’s face, as he seemed “agitated” or “like he didn’t want to be there,” according to some fans online who found this humorous.
As an insider reportedly told Page Six, the Hustlers actress was apparently aware that her husband’s seemingly irritated/ annoyed facial expressions were going viral throughout the night, and she told him to appear more happy or animated.
In the clip, Lopez apparently told Affleck, “Stop, look more friendly. Look motivated,” according to a lip reader who allegedly spoke to the Daily Mail. The interpreter also thought that Affleck replied, “I might.” (The more you watch it, this looks to be the case!)
On Instagram, the “On the Floor” hitmaker posted a video montage of clips taken throughout the Grammys, including clips of her and Affleck posing together. For her 234 million followers, Lopez wrote that she had “the best time with my love, my husband” as “always,” while some fans in her comment section appeared to believe otherwise.
“The pictures and video I saw did not portray happiness,” one wrote as another added, “Leave Ben home. Clearly it’s not his thing.” One other user joked, “Yeah, until you went MOM mode oh him. Poor Ben!” Some did seem to believe Lopez’s caption, writing, “Don’t listen to all the talk about Ben looking bored. You guys are so freaking cute together” as another added, “maybe he had an off moment! nbd!”
Body language expert Judi James spoke with Page Six this week and analyzed how the duo sat together at the Grammys, noting, “The normal A-list routine is for the guy to whisper what looks like sexy sweet nothings into his partner’s ear at red carpet events while the woman smiles or giggles to signal a passionate relationship.”
James added, of the couple who famously dated in the early 2000s, became engaged, broke off their engagement, and reconnected (and finally married) last year, “Jennifer’s response to Ben’s whisper looks much more firm and knee-jerk, though.”
The expert continued, “Her head whipped around to suggest what he had said shocked her. One of her hands grabbed her own knee while the other clutched Ben’s leg in what looked like a control gesture. As she speaks, she seemed to tap in on the chest with the back of her hand, which looks like a reproachful checking gesture rather than a passionate one.”
