Johnny Depp Sustained Injury Back In May Forcing Use Of A Cane
Back in May, Johnny posted to his personal Instagram page that after appearing at the Cannes Film Festival for his film Jeanne du Barry's premiere, he had injured himself and would need to post upcoming shows with his rock 'n roll supergroup, Hollywood Vampires. The actor wrote, "My dear friends, I am sorry to say that I have fractured my ankle, which is a drag!!! It began as a hairline break but somewhere between Cannes and the Royal Albert Hall it got worse rather than better. Several medical professionals have strongly suggested I avoid any and all activity for the moment and so am sadly unable to travel at this time."
Depp also added, of the postponed shows, "The guys and I are very sorry to miss you in New Hampshire, Boston and New York." The band also includes esteemed members like Alice Cooper, Aerosmith's Joe Perry, and guitarist Tommy Henriksen, and takes their name from a legendary Hollywood "drinking club" consisting of Cooper, The Who's Keith Moon, Ringo Star, Micky Dolenz of the Monkees, and Harry Nilsson.
The Ed Wood star has since been seen wearing an ankle boot, back in June, and most recently, utilizing a cane as he recovered from the injury.
Depp 'All Smiles' In Boston For Hollywood Vampires Show
It seems the ankle fracture has not gotten Johnny down, however—he appeared to be "all smiles" as he spent time in Boston ahead of the rescheduled Hollywood Vampires concert. Depp was seen wearing an oversized plaid blazer layered over a button-up shirt, plaid vest, and grey trousers, as well as his usual numerous accessories. His happy appearance was a relief to many fans, as the band had recently canceled a show in Budapest just minutes before it was to start, citing "Unforeseen circumstances," which prompted concern from the audience.
Prior to Hollywood Vampires' sold-out Boston performance at the Bach Center's Wang Theatre, the Sweeney Todd actor greeted fans who had gathered at a barricade in hopes of meeting him. Johnny took selfies, gave hugs, and signed autographs for dozens of fans. During the show, he fronted songs like "People Who Died" (a cover of The Jim Carroll Band) and "Heroes" (a cover of David Bowie's famous song) and showed gratitude to the band's fans, who chanted encouragement like "We love you, Johnny" during the concert.
Paparazzi pictures of Depp in Beantown posted to the JustJared Instagram page prompted other fans to speculate on the star's appearance, saying "he looks so different". Some commented that he is "not aging well" and "really let himself go," but others defended the star from the criticism. "He looks so happy!" noted one commenter. Another said, "He is living his life without getting Botoxed and and taking Ozempic to fit our standards of how he is supposed to age. He loves acting. He loves his band. He looks happy. How cool is that!!!"
Hollywood Vampires seems to have wrapped up their tour with the rescheduled Boston, Manchester, New Hampshire and Bethel, New York dates, writing on their official Instagram, "Thank you to the undead who came out and rocked with us! We will rise again."
