Fans Have Been Posting About Ariana's Rapid Weight Loss Since Earlier This Year
In June, Ariana shared a video to TikTok in which she was recreating her signature eyeliner look and poking fun at her usual makeup to promote one of her R.E.M. Beauty products. However, instead of the eyeliner marker in question, it was Ariana's physical appearance that got much of the attention.
On Twitter, fans pointed out that the singer appeared to have had recent drastic weight loss, with one commenter on a @PopCrave Twitter post about the video saying, “As an honest fan I’m so concerned about her." Another Arianator added, “I hope she’s okay,” followed by a sad face. Still other commenters speculating if she was possibly using the trendy drug Ozempic for losing weight, as stars like Anne Hathaway and Mindy Kaling have been accused of after similar recent weight loss.
The most recent Instagram post featured Ariana, now sporting straight blonde hair, in a few photos including the main image with her in a black spaghetti-strap dress and black tights. Notably, she does look rather thin in the image, with prominent collarbones that several commenters called out: "Her ribs are f------ showing," interjected one exasperated follower to those shouting down perceived "body-shamers" in the comment section, meaning to reference her clavicles. "Of course people are going to be alarmed because of that."
Ariana Grande Tells Those Speculating About Possible Health Issues To 'Be Gentle'
All the Instagram and Twitter speculation has followed a now-viral TikTok video the "Dangerous Woman" songstress posted in April addressing similar concerns about her looking "scarily thin" in pictures posted to social media, also to promote R.E.M. Beauty.
"I just wanted to address your concerns about my body and talk about what it means to be a person with a body and to be seen and paid such close attention to. I think we should be gentler and less comfortable commenting on people’s bodies, no matter what," she said. "If you think you’re saying something good or well-intentioned, whatever it is: healthy, unhealthy, big, small, this, that, sexy, not sexy. We should really work towards not doing that as much."
She added, "There are many different kinds of beautiful...I know personally, for me, the body you’ve been comparing my current body to was the unhealthiest version of my body." She continued that the "healthy" body her fans may have been referring to was not what she considers her actual best self, noting that she was "on a lot of anti-depressants and drinking" and called that version "the lowest point" of her life. "The second thing is, you never know what someone is going through," she noted, “even if you are coming from a loving place or caring place." She concluded by telling fans: "Be gentle with each other and with yourselves."
