The Scary Reason You Should Never Buy Fast Food Breakfast Sandwiches–This Is So Bad!

Before you think about grabbing a tasty breakfast sandwich at your favorite morning spots like Starbucks, Dunkin’ or Burger King–just remember that the “eggs” in the recipe aren’t just eggs!

Yes, you read that right–the egg and egg whites that come in these popular breakfast orders contain ingredients like soybean oil, xanthan gum, corn starch, citric acid and medium chain triglycerides and more. What the WHAT?!

After a TikTok of a Dunkin’ employee holding a frozen egg patty went viral, the internet wanted to dig a little bit deeper into exactly what they were getting when they ordered these breakfast menu items at their favorite fast food spots.

These “eggs” come with many unwanted ingredients them, that you’d NEVER see in a farm fresh or even grocery store version of the food. Without further ado, here are the egg nutrition facts on your favorite restaurant chain’s breakfast options:

Dunkin'

Today reports that Dunkin' "eggs" are made with egg whites, yolks, soybean oil, water, natural flavoring agents, salt and a mix preservatives and stabilizers like xanthan gum, citric acid and cellulose gum. People confirmed that their eggs do, in fact, contain a whopping 12 ingredients.

Starbucks

The coffee chain's "frittata egg patty" contains soybean oil and water, as well as unmodified corn starch, xanthan gum, citric acid and powdered cellulose. The eggs in the popular Sous Vide Egg Bites contain three ingredients (relatively simple for this list): eggs, citric acid and water.

Burger King’s

BK's breakfast menu describes its “eggs” as a "liquid egg-pasteurized mixture," made with whole eggs, water, xanthan gum, citric acid, medium chain triglycerides and more.

The egg omelet contains "whole egg, whey, soybean oil, salt, natural and artificial butter flavour, xanthan gum, citric acid, annatto (color). What even are these ingredients, and why are they necessayr?!

Panera

Panera is one of the only national food chains that uses 100% freshly cracked eggs in their breakfast sandwiches, which launched in 2018. They even petitioned the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to define what makes an egg an egg!

“Brands can say they offer an egg sandwich, but sell an egg product that contains multiple additives,” director of wellness and food policy Sara Burnett, Panera’s said in a release.
