If you’re not in New York City, finding the perfect bagel can be quite a tricky endeavor. Thankfully, many nationwide fast food chains offer their own takes on classic bagel sandwiches. Meaghan Cameron, Deputy Editor of Restaurants at Eat This, Not That! and her team recently tried three different versions of a sausage egg and cheese on a bagel and shared their findings. Read on to learn how offerings from Panera Bread, McDonald’s and Dunkin‘ measure up, and what made Mickey D’s the ultimate winner.

Dunkin’s version of this sandwich receieved a third place ranking, Cameron explained, partly because “when cut, the cheese was almost non-existent.” She continued, adding, “the bagel was very firm and slightly chewy, but overall dry.” She also wrote, “The small amount of cheese didn’t help and the sausage was the driest and least spicy of the three sandwiches.” According to the Dunkin’ website, this menu item features “eggs, American cheese and irresistible sausage” on a bagel type of your choice (plain, sesame, multigrain, everything, etc).
This sandwich was in second place mainly because it “was good for a few bites and then became too greasy,” Cameron noted. As far as her team, one taster preferred the Panera sandwich over the Dunkin’ sandwich, she wrote, “because it had spicy sausage, with a “mouth-filling flavor” and very creamy cheese.” The sausage was spicier “but all agreed that the aioli was just too much.” On Panera Bread’s website, the company writes that this sausage, egg and cheese sandwich features “sausage, an over-easy egg, American cheese, salt and pepper, and garlic aioli on a freshly baked Asiago bagel.”
