If you’re frustrated with a slow iPhone, the solution may not be as expensive or time-consuming as you think. Before you head off to the Apple store to diagnose the problem or order a new phone battery that you may not need, changing a few phone settings may work wonders. Thomas Niemczewski, CEO and founder at Dream Chasers, suggests following these two rules to help make sure your phone is working as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Close Apps Running In The Background

One of the most common causes of a slow phone is that it has too many apps running in the background, according to Niemczewski. “These apps can be taking up valuable resources and cause your phone to slow down,” Niemczewski said. “Close apps that are running in the background. This can be done by double-tapping the home button and swiping up on any apps that you’re not using.”

Free Up Storage Space

Making it a priority to free up storage space wherever and whenever you can will take you a long way toward getting a faster, more efficient phone.

“If your phone doesn’t have enough space, it won’t be able to keep up with its processing needs,” Niemczewski said. “One of the best things you can do to speed up your phone is to free up some storage space. Start by removing any apps you don’t use frequently. You can also delete photos, videos, and messages that you don’t need anymore. Additionally, you can look into investing in a cloud storage service, such as iCloud, to store some of your data off your phone.”

Lastly, you should always make sure your phone is running the latest version of iOS. “This will ensure your device has access to the newest features and updates,” Niemczewski said.

Make these tips a habit and your iPhone user experience will be that much more rewarding.
