We all wish losing weight was as simple as taking a magic dieting pill, but in reality, it takes a regular fitness routine and a healthy diet to see progress. These two factors are even more important as you get older and it becomes harder for your body to burn fat on its own. Even then, sometimes it can feel like that stubborn weight just won’t budge. Then, you may want to consider checking your nutrient levels and taking a supplementary vitamin to move things along.

Fat-burning vitamins have proven to be helpful when coupled with regular exercise and a healthy diet. Experts say vitamin D is an excellent daily supplement to add to your current weight loss plan due to its inflammation-fighting abilities.

When it comes to those with belly fat, researchers say that there is a correlation between obesity and vitamin D levels. Men's Health notes that research has found that people with "adequate vitamin D levels" are more likely tended to lose more weight than those with low levels.

"Vitamin D deficiency is one of the most commonly unrecognized medical conditions," says Michael F. Holick, M.D., Ph.D., a professor of medicine at Boston University medical center and author of The Vitamin D Solution. "And that deficiency negatively affects every cell in your body—including your fat cells."

But before you go and overload on vitamin D, it's important to stress that taking too much of anything isn’t a good idea. In fact, too much vitamin D can upset the calcium levels in your body and affect how certain heart and blood pressure medicines work. Always consult with your doctor before starting a new supplement or vitamin.
