Salmonella Contamination

The recall was announced after the products were linked to Salmonella infections that are spreading across the nation. According to the FDA, "65 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella" in total. Illness related to this particular recall started between May 23, 2024 and August 10, 2024, and though no deaths have been reported, 24 of these cases required hospitalization.

The recall initiated after the FDA discovered that "environmental samples tested positive for the bacteria" and later found that these "samples were related to an ongoing Salmonella outbreak investigation." Salmonella symptoms generally take between 12 and 72 hours to manifest after eating the contaminated food. Symptoms, including fever, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps, can last up to seven days.

What You Should Do If You've Purchased Recalled Eggs

If you've purchased eggs from the brands Tony's Fresh Market or Milo's Poultry Farms, do not consume them and throw them out immediately. Additionally, if you store your eggs outside of their original carton, it's important to sanitize the container or any surfaces the eggs may have touched in order to reduce the risk of cross contamination.
