The FDA Just Issued A Warning Over Ground Cinnamon Sold At The Dollar Store–It Might Contain Lead!

Various ground cinnamon brands are being recalled from stores like Dollar Tree and Family Dollar after tests reveal that they contain “unsafe” amounts of lead. The US Food and Drug Administration reported the recall on Mar. 12th, urging suppliers to take the products off shelves. Read on for more details, including exactly which products are affected by the recall and what to do if you’ve purchased them.

Ground Cinnamon Recall At Discount Stores

The following brands of cinnamon are being recalled for containing "elevated levels of lead" that "may be unsafe:"

    La Fiesta Cinnamon sold at La Superior and SuperMercados with Lots/Codes: 25033Marcum Cinnamon sold at Save A Lot with Best By Dates 10/16/25 and 4/6/25MK Cinnamon sold at SF SupermarketSwad Cinnamon sold at Patel Brothers with Lots/Codes: KX21223Supreme Tradition Cinnamon sold at Dollar Tree and Family Dollar with Best By dates: 9/29/25, 4/17/25, 12/19/25, 4/12/25, 8/24/25, 4/21/25, and 9/22/25El Chilar Cinnamon sold at La Joya Morelense with Lots/Codes: F275EX1026 and D300EX1024

The FDA is advising consumers to stop using and dispose of these products immediately. While no illnesses or other health effects have been reported in connection with the recall, it is always better to be safe than sorry. Long-term exposure to lead, especially in children, can cause learning disabilities, behavioral difficulties, and lower IQ.

If you purchased Supreme Tradition Cinnamon at Dollar Tree or Family Dollar, you can return it to your local store for a full refund. Other retailers have yet to announce their policy.
