Modern-Day Shag
Kyleen Garcia, Sam Villa Ambassador, Redken Artist and Union Street Salon Owner, says he loves that many women are embracing their natural texture, and with that, discovering new ways on styling their hair. “One cut that I recommend for a guest with wavy hair is a modern-day shag,” Garcia says. “The layers help curls bounce and the piece-y front bangs are really fun and flattering.”
And with that modern-day shag, curtain bangs work perfectly. “A curtain bang is great for those who want to add some life to their hair, without the commitment of forward, blunt bangs,” Garcia adds.
A Cut With Blunt Bangs
Blunt bangs are cut straight across and can add some edge to a hairstyle, says Anthony Barone, grooming expert and co-founder of Daily Grooming Tips. “They are a good option for women with square or rectangular faces,” he adds. So many styles work well with blunt bangs including a classic bob, long hair with layers, and a shoulder-grazing lob that adds volume.
Wispy Bangs
Wispy bangs with a messy bob or pixie cut look so NOW. Not to mention: they suit a variety of face shapes, including round and oval faces and help add softness to your look, Barone stresses.
If you’re not sure which bang style to settle on,Stylist and Sam Villa Ambassador Sami Skinner has a few tips.
“When it comes to face shapes, we always say that like lines exaggerate and opposite lines complement,” Skinner says. “If you’re looking to show off a sharp feature, maybe a sharper blunter bang would be your best choice. If you have a smaller forehead, a more open curtain bang would be a great choice to not close off your face.”
So now that you’ve decided to give bangs a chance, what can you expect in terms of maintenance? In addition to consulting with a qualified hair stylist to find a style that flatters your face shape and hair type, Barone recommends preparing to incorporate some of these styling tips into your everyday routine to keep your bangs looking their best:
** Use a round brush to blow-dry your bangs in the direction you want them to fall.
** Use a flat iron to straighten your bangs if you want them to be smooth and sleek.
** Use a curling iron to curl your bangs if you want them to be soft and wavy.
** Use a texturizing spray to add some volume and texture to your bangs.
“With a little bit of effort, you can easily style your bangs to create a look that is both stylish and flattering,” Barone says.
