We’ve got great news for anyone out there who is over 50, searching for a new hairstyle that will flatter their hair and the many changes it may be going through, and wants to stay on trend: the impossible has happened. Some of this year’s hottest hair trends also happen to be ideal for mature women and thinning hair. The stars have aligned for the first time in a very long time and our favorite trendy haircuts and hairstyles also happen to be alluring on women of all ages. Even better: they can make thinning or fine hair look healthier and thicker and one in particular (a hair color we’re loving for this season) is way lower maintenance than the pale blondes and cherry colas of last seasons.

It’s time to be inspired. Your hunt for a new hairstyle is over: here are five that will keep you looking and feeling your best, and they’re super trendy, to boot.

1. Micro Bob

The micro bob, aka the French bob, aka the very short bang, is exactly what it sounds like: a bob that is cut shorter than your typical chin-length bob and can remove stringy ends, split ends, and dryness. This bob length lends itself beautifully to asymmetrical styles or blunt ones that can make your hair strands appear denser and fuller.

2. Side Part

It’s perhaps the simplest hair swap you can make, but also one of the most effective: a side part that takes the focus off shedding hair and a widening center part. The side part is back in a major way and we’re loving Julianne Moore’s Old Hollywood take on the trend, with her deep side part and long, soft waves.

3. Jane Birkin Bangs

Jane Birkin (and her trademark hair and bangs) will never be forgotten. The British and French starlet rocked a fringe that was thinner than your typical blunt bang, with more texture. It looks both playful and chic at the same time and is about to become the most asked-for fringe of the season.

4. Multi-Dimensional Brunette Hair Colors

Bid farewell to perfectly uniform blondes and funky cherry cola hues for this season. The “rich girl” brunette shade is in — and this means lots of dimension with highlights in various shades of coffee, caramel, and mocha. You can get away with letting this color grow out a bit and it still looks fabulous.

5. Voluminous Blowout

Take a page out of 1990s Cindy Crawford’s book and invest in a good round brush, hair dryer, and root-lifting spray: because the voluminous blowout is back in. Back-combing your hair and then combing it out gives thinning hair a nice lift. You can add heatless waves or curlers for more texture.
