When you think about boosting your metabolism, you think about being active and getting enough sleep. You may also think about what foods and drinks you should have to help try and speed the process along. But have you ever thought cheese is the answer to a faster metabolism? A study published in The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry suggests just that.

According to an analysis of the study in Prevention, cheese can actually help you to boost your metabolism. Study participants who consumed cheese had higher traced levels of butyrate than those who didn't. Butyrate has been linked to a reduced risk of obesity.
Not so fast though, not all cheeses are "healthy" for you. There are some you can indulge in though to help bust fat. Co-author of the study Morten R. Clausen, PhD, tells Prevention that butyrate can either come directly from the cheese that's eaten or from your gut after you eat it.
The healthiest cheeses you should eat include aged cheddar and parmesan. Mature cheeses rather than fresh cheeses are expected to have higher amounts of butyrate, Morten says. This butyric acid really helps to regulate the breakdown of fats.
So, yes, you don't necessarily have to give up cheese even when you're on a diet. Some cheeses can actually be a big help in trying to shed those few pounds you may be trying to lose. It's time to have a wine and cheese party, ladies!
