Ever wondered what the fittest people, aka professional trainers, keep in their fridges? They need to fuel workouts but also know exactly what to eat for weight control. Most have years of health and wellness experience, and know exactly what to put in their bodies to look and feel their best. We wish it was that simple for the rest of us!
We spoke exclusively with Manhattan-based trainer Liz Cook, founder of LCFITNESSNYC to find out what foods and ingredients she *always* has on deck to cook healthy meals. Cook has been training clients for over 6 years and has one philosophy: "Everybody has ONE body. Let's make it last!"
Nice. Now let's see what's in her fridge...
Apples.
"When I'm on the run all day I just grab one and go. Sliced apples with a dollop of peanut butter is divine," the AFPA-certified trainer explains.
Cottage cheese.
"It's a versatile food; can be used for any meal and delicious for a snack," Liz explains. "It's my quick breakfast go to. I also spread it on melba toast as a little snack after a strength work out. The protein feeds my muscles and you can add almost any seasoning to cottage cheese to spice it up!
Strawberries
"I'm rarely without strawberries. Because they are so seasonal, I buy frozen ones and pop them in my freezer in the winter. I love making smoothies with fresh and frozen berries. In the summer I dust a little confectioner's sugar on them if I'm craving something extra sweet."
Almond milk.
"I steam it in the morning and add to my coffee. Delicious in smoothies, too."
Cantaloupe.
"I buy melons already cut up so there's no fuss. I add cantaloupe to cottage cheese and yogurt."
