Stress, lack of sleep, and genetics aren’t the only causes of under-eye dark circles. They can also be the result of a poor diet, too! Eating vitamin and nutrient-rich foods not only help with weight management, but they also help achieve youthful, healthy, and glowing skin.
Incorporate these four foods into your diet and watch your dark circles disappear:
Almonds are loaded with vitamin E, a substance that is known to have powerful, skin-healing properties. "Studies have shown vitamin E is an efficient antioxidant and reduces the damage done to your skin by free radicals," says Keri Glassman, RD. "This means it can prevent the breakdown of skin cells under your eyes, too, helping to prevent wrinkles and even helping to reduce dark circles."
Similar to carrots and butternut squash, sweet potatoes get their orange color from beta-carotene, a substance which the body converts into vitamin A. "Beta-carotene is a powerful antioxidant that can help promote healthy vision, improve respiratory health and even protect your skin," says Rachael Link, MS, RD.
Wondering why you've seen so many beauty products with kale in them? It's because kale is rich in vitamin K! “The vitamin K in kale helps to reduce the dark circles under your eyes and ‘tightens’ your skin, thereby reducing fine lines and wrinkles," says David E. Bank, MD. Add kale to your next green smoothie to de-puff and brighten eyes!
Strawberries are great for reducing dark circles because they're packed with vitamin C. "Vitamin C works in the body as an antioxidant protecting skin cell damage from free radicals, and inhibiting the destruction of skin cells," Glassman says. "It also helps to support the strength of your blood vessel walls, as well as help to promote the production of collagen."
Add these foods to your diet and it won't be long before you can ditch your under-eye concealer for good!
