Frozen foods are a perfect way to get a full meal when you’re crunched for time, or simply too busy to cook on your own. We live in an age where you can stroll through the frozen aisle of the grocery store and find just about anything you’re craving, already made and ready for you. You can even find low-calorie, healthy foods pre-made and frozen. But this is where you need to be careful.
There are a ton of frozen foods that advertise as healthy and seem like the kind of thing you can eat without another thought. But some of these foods aren't as good for you as you might think.
For example, Lean Cuisine makes a ton of tasty, low-calorie foods that look like the type of thing that won't harm your diet. But "low calorie" lables can be deceiving. A food can be low in calores but still harmful to your health.
Oftentimes, low-calorie foods make up for those low numbers with high levels of sodium, carbs or even sugar. This can mean that foods can cause weight gain or slow down your metabolism, even if they aren't bringing in a ton of calories.
Next time you're looking for a good frozen meal, pay extra close attention to all of the nutrition facts - not just the calories. Make sure you pick foods that are high in protein, fiber and vitamins, and don't contain too much sodium or carbs.
