There are many different methods for achieving a more youthful look, but none as easy (or immediate) as changing your hairstyle. We’ve all heard the joke that you should talk to a therapist before getting bangs. However, just because the drastic haircut is a little dramatic does not mean it’s the wrong choice for you. In fact, if you are trying to shed off a few years, a fringe cut might actually be the perfect solution.

Blunt Fringe

Speaking to Byrdie, Marc Trinder, co-founder of Trinder Hair Studios in the U.K., explained, "A full, blunt fringe can be dramatic, but it will hide lines and can completely frame your face and draw attention to your eyes."

Some careful shaping can customize and soften this look depending on your face shape. He adds, "Fringes that curve around and frame the cheekbones will give contour and lift."

Curtain Bangs

Curtain bangs are one way to ease into fringe hairstyles for those who are still nervous about making the cut. Plus, they're probably the trendiest fringe hairstyle at the moment. "Curtain bangs are the gateway to bangs, because they're super versatile," Emily Heser, stylist at Cutler Salon in New York City, tells Glamour.

She adds, "They're long enough to grow out or pin back if you want, but they can also be cut into a shorter look."

Besides being less commitment than a full-on fringe, these bangs can be perfect for those who want to embrace a more youthful look. Since they cover a decent portion of your forehead and the corners of your eyes, they're great for disguising wrinkles.

Brow-Skimming Bangs

Getting the length of your bangs right is important, and experts suggest that brow-length is a good way to go if you're unsure. Celebrity hairstylist and co-founder of MANE Society, Tippi Shorter, explained to Allure, "Brow-skimming bangs work great on more mature faces."

With that in mind, if you're looking for a refresh for your hair, brow-skimming bangs are a good option, particularly if you want to hide any forehead wrinkles.
