Amy’s Kitchen, (the popular brand that manufactures organic and non-GMO convenience and frozen foods) just issued a voluntary recall of a single lot of its Vegan Organic Rice Mac & Cheeze meals (spelled with a ‘z’). According to Thrillist, the company warns that this product (which is labelled as and supposed to be gluten and dairy-free)— might contain trace amounts of milk that aren’t indicated on its label.

Since even small amounts of dairy products can be detrimental and life-threatening to those with allergies, the Petaluma, California-based company is recalling thousands of cases. Many vegan and lactose-intolerant customers often pick up this product at major retailers like Target, where these recalled items might still be found.

The company reportedly sent meals to be tested from a third-party laboratory and learned that at least one of the meals in the lot contained trace amounts of milk protein. This is why as of last month, Amy's is recalling Vegan Organic Rice Mac & Cheeze and urging customers to check their freezers for the following lot number—60J0421. The affected products have a Best Before Date of 10/2023 and a UPC number of 42272-00043.

According to the FDA, no other vegan products have been impacted or contain any traces of dairy. If customers do find the affected meals, they can return them to where they were purchased for a full refund. If you'd like to contact Amy’s Consumer Relations team with any questions, they can be reached at 800-643-0570.  Representatives are available Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST.
