Eating fruit is always a healthy choice, right? Actually – it’s not. The idea that all fruits are good for you is a very common misconception that has to be corrected, immediately.
Not all fruits are created equally. Some are extremely high in unwanted ingredients, and the biggest culprit of this is the banana. While they provide a lot of essential nutrients like potassium and vitamin C, they also contain a lot of carbs and sugar.
Most people are surprised to learn how much carbs and sugar are in bananas, but it’s true - a single piece of the fruit can have as much as 14 grams of sugar and 27 grams of carbs.
The benefits of bananas don’t outweigh their risks. They don’t have enough protein or fiber to make for a healthy snack, good breakfast or a post-workout boost, and eating bananas just loads you up on sugar and carbs.
Instead of a banana, pick a fruit with more benefits than risks. Citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruits are excellent sources of vitamin C and fiber, plus they’re much lower in sugar than bananas are.
