Most people assume that eating fruit is always a healthier alternative to other snacks or breakfast products. While this might be true, you need to be careful about which fruits you pick – because some fruits are much higher in sugar and carbs than anyone would expect.
Even though bananas play such a big role in healthy smoothies and oatmeal recipes, they're actually one of the worst fruits you can eat.
It is true that bananas contain high amounts of vitamin C, potassium andmanganese, there are also some downsides to bananas. And these downsides can often outweigh the benefits.
Bananas are extremely high in starch, carbs and sugar. In fact, a single banana can have as many as 27 grams of carbs and 14 grams of sugar. That's the same amount of carbs you would take in from eating a sandwich on white bread, and more than three times the sugar you would get from white bread.
Next time, save the banana for a dessert instead of breakfast or a healthy snack. This fruit is not a healthy alternative to most popular breakfasts, but it can be a less unhealthy option to desserts and sweets.
