When done well by a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon, lip injections can provide natural results that plump up your pout and give it volume and hydration, without making them look overfilled. But injections aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. You may have reasons for shunning lip filler — including personal feelings about it, how it looks, and how much it costs (expect to pay several hundred dollars and have to redo your lips every four to six months on average).
Here’s some good news (brought to you by, from all places, TikTok): some beauty bloggers have faking full lips down to a science. And the best part? The products you’ll need will cost you far less than $100.
@kennedyjuneco As someone who actually has thin lips and has tried every lip plumper and lip liner under the sun, this is the only technique that really works for me! @benefitcosmetics @neutrogena_us #greenscreen #lipplumper #lipinjectiontoofaced #lipinjections #makeuphacks #liphacks #lipgloss #lipstain #beautytips #beautyhacks
Kennedy June shares simple tips for “the people who actually have thin lips,” she says. These are the products she uses and the hacks she follows to get pouty lips “without lip injections.”
Step One: Apply a Lip Tint
This first step may make you question what on Earth you’re doing because it will look worse before it looks better, but stay with us. June shows how she apply a lip stain that stays in place for hours. Apply it all over your lips and apply over the line, paying more attention than usual to overlining the Cupid’s bow. We’re big fans of Benetint Liquid Lip + Cheek Blush Stain.
Step Two: Wipe Away Your Lip Stain
Let the lip stain sit for about 30 seconds (or however long you want) and then wipe it off with a paper towel and water. You’ll be left with a lovely stain that accentuates the natural color of your lips but isn’t too dark or bright.
Step Three: Lip Plumper
Lip plumpers have come a long way in recent years and can really do a great deal to help you fake voluminous lips. After you’ve wiped off your lip stain, apply a plumping product like Too Faced Lip Injection Plumper. Apply it as you would a gloss and wait a few minutes for its ultra-plumping effect to take hold.
Another plumping product that is cheaper but packs just as great a punch as Too Faced Lip Injection is Neutrogena Moisture Shine Lip Smoother, which is made with a cooling gel that gives lips a kick. The wonderfully convenient thing about this hack is that you’ve already applied your pigmented color beneath the lip plumper or gloss, so with just two products, you’re finished and ready to get out the door!
