Amid all the excitement, King does have one dilemma: she does not want to be called Grandma (or Gigi or Gammy), and finding an alternative is proving to be a challenge.
Her favorite option is Gaia, which she says "means Mother Earth." Cute! But not everyone is a fan. According to King, her BFF Oprah Winfrey is very much against the nickname.
"Oprah thinks it is stupid and pretentious," King explained. "I like it."
King also considered a British-inspired name, which was swiftly rejected by her daughter. "I thought Mumsy. Kirby hated that… She goes, 'We’re not British.'"
She has not landed on a name that works for everyone just yet, so is still looking for ideas. "I'm soliciting," she added.
King first announced the news during an appearance on The Ellen Show. "We haven't told anybody, because I've been held to secrecy," King gushed, per USA Today. "Ellen, I'm gonna be a grandmother, and I can't wait!"
King had just gotten permission from her daughter to share the news, and it seems like King just could not contain her excitement. "Right before I went on the air, I said, 'Kirby, if Ellen doesn't ask me anything about grandchildren, I'm not gonna mention it. But, if she does ask me, I don't wanna stand there and say I don't know. I don't want to do that,'" she explained.
King also admitted that she hopes her first grandchild is a baby boy. "Listen, I'm the oldest of four girls. My whole life I wanted a big brother," King told DeGeneres. "I just thought people that had big brothers were really lucky. So I always like a firstborn to be a boy, then the second one is a girl, and then you have a big brother that takes care of you. It's just my own little fantasy."
