Gisele Bündchen may not walk as many runways as she did back in the day, but the former Victoria’s Secret Angel still has her incredibly enviable supermodel body. And if we are to believe the many reports about her diet, she owes a lot of it to intermittent fasting!
The mom-of-two isn’t the only A-lister to gush about their love of intermittent fasting, with Cameron Diaz and Chris Pratt being just two other examples of celebs who have opened up about following it to get into shape.
What Has Gisele Said About Intermittent Fasting?
There are a lot of things the Brazilian model does to maintain her impeccable physique, including starting her day at 5 a.m. with meditation and a glass of lemon water, followed by a workout. And intermittent fasting also has a big part to play!
In her 2018 book Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life, the Joias Vivara model explained how helpful the 5:2 version of intermittent fasting diet was for her. In a nutshell, the diet involves eating regularly for five days, and doing intermittent fasting for the other two days. During the two intermittent fasting days, calories are restricted to just 500-600.
In her book Lessons, Gisele revealed that she fasts until lunchtime during her intermittent fasting days to allow her body time to rest and digest. "It takes a lot of energy for our bodies to digest the food we eat, and I think it's a good idea to sometimes give our digestive system a rest," she writes in the book.
There Are A Lot Of Foods Gisele Never Eats
Gisele's meals typically feature eggs, smoothies, greens, various vegetables, and plenty of protein. But there is also a long list of things that she will never put on her plate, including white sugar!
"To me, white sugar means poison. There's so many other ways you can sweeten your things that are delicious," she explained in a candid interview with The Wall Street Journal back in March, revealing that she turns to natural sweetener such as "honey, maple syrup and dates."
"For me, the whole thing about food has become, where is it coming from? How is it grown?" she continued, adding: "I see my body as a temple. I don't want to feel sluggish after I eat. I don't want to have a stomach ache or be constipated. My whole goal is to live the longest I can living the best life that I can.”
She went into more detail in her Nourish cookbook, and added: "No McDonald's or shelf-stable cupcakes or candy for me. My body is my temple, and my temple is sacred. Eating processed food is not being loving to myself."
