I Got A Lash Lift Instead Of Extensions--& Am SO Happy I Did!

I’ve been debating getting eyelash extensions for awhile now. The instant gratification you get from synthetic lashes just doesn’t compare to anything else (or so I thought). There’s no amount of mascara or time spent with the Shu Uemura curler that can get you the same results. But, the payoff is fleeting, the lashes only last two weeks (or closer to ten days if you’re me and like to pull them off), the cost is high (~$200) and they leave your real lashes damaged. Yikes.

I have a wedding coming up in May and while I would love big flashy extensions for those four days, I made the decision not to get them. That’s why I was so excited to learn that my local spa had started doing lash lifts, the eyelash version of a perm that beauty editors are flocking to in lieu of extensions.

For one–they last longer, about eight weeks. Secondly, they don’t damage your lashes. The results are just as jaw-dropping, and it’s cheaper. A win-win.

I headed over to GLO Spa in NYC’s financial district to try it. They’ve recently added the service to their menu which is otherwise compromised of laser hair removal and facial services like dermalinfusion and micro-needling.

The spa now offers the Lash Lift for $150. It requires no prep or down-time after–I literally walked in off the street, was laying on the bed for 50 minutes and headed out to an event after. The aesthetician curled up my lashes, applied Elleebana lifting lotion generously, let it sit for a while (I lost track of time, honestly–but it felt like 20 minutes or so). She removed the lifting lotion and showed me the result in a hand mirror. Wow! I couldn’t believe my natural lashes could look that voluminous. You should know about me that I am very insecure about my flat lashes. I got an instant mood lift from seeing them stand tall. Look at her!

The only instructions I left with was to avoid water (cooking over steam, showering, washing my face, etc.) for 24 hours. I’m on week three of the lift, and my lashes look as good as they did the day I left the salon. My aesthetician suggested that I use lash serum daily, which I have. I don’t need mascara (and definitely don’t apply it during daytime–that might be too much), but when I want to look like a total babe, ie. Friday night, I apply one coat and you GUYS, it’s next level.

I will definitely be added this to my beauty routine. Book for yourself now.
