When you have acne prone skin, you have to be very careful about the products you use in your skincare routine. Otherwise, you run the risk of adding pore-clogging ingredients to your skin, which lead to more acne and irritation. This is especially true for exfoliators. Those who suffer with acne are told to steer clear of harsh exfoliators–especially the ones with exfoliating beads–as they can make your breakouts even worse and cause more pimples to form due to their abrasive texture, making chemical exfoliators the best for the skin type.
That’s why I was so excited when Glossier announced that they were releasing Solution, a chemical exfoliating skin perfecter that features an acne-fighting blend of Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA), and Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA).
“Solution gently sloughs dead cells away through chemical exfoliation, dissolving the bonds gluing problematic dead cells to the healthy skin beneath,” according to the brand. “With daily use, expect cleared acne and blackheads, smaller pores, and reduced redness. Skin’s texture will be smoother and softer, and the fabled glow of balanced, healthy skin will be in full force.”
I incorporated the product into my skincare routine for 4 weeks, using it between my cleanser and moisturizer, and am pleased to say that it totally changed my skin! Here’s what happened when I used Glossier’s Solution:
Before
I have acne prone skin (as you can see in my "before" pic) and I get pimples all over my face that range in size, redness and intensity. I enjoyed using Glossier's Solution because it instantly made my skin feel cleaner and softer.
After about a week or so of using the product, I noticed that my skin appeared to be brighter, but it didn't necessarily "perfect" my skin right away--which I expected because the acne-clearing results don't happen until at least 4+ weeks of using it.
After
This is my skin after 4 weeks of using the product. Now, I know my acne is exactly "cleared," but, you have to admit that it looks better than the first pic!
My pores were visibly smaller and the redness from my acne had decreased significantly. Plus, my skin was visibly more glowy and radiant. And the best news is that NO new pimples formed once I started using the product! That's a BIG victory for people with acne-prone skin!
Final Thoughts:
Glossier's Solution isn't a "miracle, pimples gone overnight" type of product. It takes time to see results, and you have to invest a lot of time in the product. But, it did help to reduce redness and brighten my skin. Not to mention that it only costs $24, so it won't break your bank if you want to try it out!
I would recommend this product to people who suffer from minor pimples and breakouts, but I'm not sure it would be as beneficial for those with severe or cystic acne. If you're unsure if Glossier's Solution will work for your skin type, consult with a dermatologist to see if it's got the right ingredients for the results you want!
