Amy Robach Reportedly Blames Her ‘GMA’ Co-Host For Having Her Taken Off Air Amid T.J. Holmes Affair
December 9, 2022 by Maria Pierides
Good Morning America fans are still reeling from last week’s bombshell, whereby pictures of co-stars Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes engaging in a lot of PDA (despite both being married to other people since 2010!) went viral! And now it seems like both Robach and Holmes are dealing with the consequences, as they have temporarily been taken off the air amid the backlash from viewers over their alleged affair!
GMA viewers didn’t see Robach, 49, and Holmes, 45, on Monday’s GMA3: What You Need to Know show, and instead, it was anchored by Gio Benitez and Stephanie Ramos. Benitez and Ramos didn’t specifically address where the original co-hosts were, with Ramos simply saying, “Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes got the day off, I’m Stephanie Ramos.” Benitez chimed in, adding, “And I’m Gio Benitez. We are so glad you are here with us to begin this brand new week on GMA3.”
According to reports, ABC News President Kim Godwin told employees that although Holmes and Robach’s relationship was consensual and “not a violation of company policy,” it had become “an internal and external distraction,” and the network is trying to “work through what’s best” for the organization.
“After a lot of thought, I am taking Amy and T.J. off the air as we figure this out,” Godwin said, according to Page Six. It’s not yet clear when Robach and Holmes will return to their regular slots, with insiders saying the network is taking things “day by day.”
Perhaps network bosses should have pre-empted this, as many sources have insisted that Robach and Holmes weren’t very good at hiding their feelings for each other.
“Amy was going through a heartache and T.J. was very much there for her and helpful, and that is when they started something,” an insider told People, adding that their affair was “the worst kept secret in ABC News.”
Amy Robach Blames Lara Spencer For Getting Her Taken Off AirAlthough the decision to bench Robach and Holmes on Monday, December 5th’s show (despite them appearing on Friday’s show and getting great audience figures!) was that of the network’s, Robach reportedly believes that Lara Spencer was responsible for the pair being temporarily replaced by Ramos and Benitez.
“The bosses were thrilled and giddy with the ratings on Friday, but now Amy and T.J. are suddenly off the show,” a source told Us Weekly. “It’s not a delayed reaction – something happened and Amy is blaming Lara.” The insider went on to say that the network “made the decision after further details came to light,” but didn’t specify what those details were.
Another source came to Spencer’s defense, and said that she “doesn’t have the power or influence to remove Amy or T.J.” from the show. “The decision was made by ABC bosses to calm internal and external distraction the situation has caused,” they added.

Previous Tension Between Amy Robach And Lara SpencerFans might be able to understand where Robach’s idea that Spencer had something to do with the network’s decision came from, as the pair allegedly haven’t had the best relationship over the years. Tensions reportedly started back in 2012 after Robin Roberts took a break from GMA to recover from a bone marrow transplant, and an insider told Us Weekly that, “Lara was livid that Amy was seen by bosses as Robin’s heir-apparent. It was clear that Amy would be the one to step in. Lara wanted the gig and hasn’t ever forgotten it.”
In Spencer’s defense, another insider suggested that she had actually been very supportive of both Robach and Holmes after their affair was exposed, saying: “People have their own idea of what’s going on behind the scenes. Lara is supporting Amy.”
