It’s not often that an ingredient comes along which can work to remedy an array of beauty needs. In the winter, you may find yourself suffering from dryness at every turn: dry hair, dry skin, and dry nails. However, there’s no reason to collect a range of varying products when there’s one that will do the job for all of these concerns. Enter: grapeseed oil. We asked a dermatologist to explain what grapeseed oil is and how it can act as the remedy you never knew you needed for dryness. This is what he had to say.

60+ Gift Ideas For Everyone On Your List

According to Dr. Joshua Zeichner, grapeseed oil has been known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-aging benefits, making it the perfect addition to your skincare routine. “Grapeseed oil contains high levels of Omega-6 fatty acids and antioxidants like Vitamin E. Fatty acids have emollient benefits to soften and hydrate the outer skin layer. Vitamin E neutralizes free radical damage to protect the skin from environmental damage,” he explains. Protecting your skin against outside damage is vital for slowing aging in your complexion, so it’s worth considering grapeseed oil even if your skin isn’t particularly dry.

Still not sold? Zeichner explains that the Vitamin E contained in grapeseed oil also helps to brighten and even your skin tone, while moisturizing and soothing inflammation. Fortunately, people with dry skin aren’t the only ones who can reap the benefits of grapeseed oil. “It can be used across all skin types, even in people with oily or acne prone skin,” Zeichner says.

Now that we’re clear on the benefits, there are a number of ways to practically integrate grapeseed oil into your routine. “It can be used in its straight form or as an ingredient in commonly used skin care products,” Zeichner explains. If you’re suffering from particularly dry strands, Zeichner notes that grapeseed oil could remedy this as well, “It is also used to help condition your hair because of its natural softening benefits which are useful for dry, damaged hair.” Win win!

This winter, grapeseed oil may be the only product your beauty routine needs to maintain a hydrated glow from head to toe. Apply a dot to your cuticles for some extra moisture, add into your skincare routine to infuse brightness back into your complexion, or use it as a hair mask to bring dry, depleted strands back to life. Sometimes all it takes is one good product to turn your beauty routine around, and grapeseed oil may do just that.
