The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced a recall on 1,835 pounds of fresh ground beef from Dean & Peeler Meatworks, LLC, of Poth, TX due to possible E. coli contamination. Some of the products may already be in the hands of restaurants. Find all the details below.

A recall is never good, but it can be especially concerning when recalled items have been distributed to restaurants. That’s exactly the case with nearly 2,000 pounds of fresh ground beef from Dan & Peeler Meatworks.

The FSIS was notified of potential E. coli contamination after the meat from Dan & Peeler was tested by a third party lab. The beef tested presumptive positive for E. coli, a dangerous bacteria that can lead to cramps, diarrhea, fever, and more. In rare cases, E. coli infection can even result in life-threatening kidney disease.

Unfortunately, the recalled products have already been shipped to restaurants in San Antonio. The FSIS urges restaurants in possession of the potentially contaminated beef to throw it out or return it to the store it was purchased at. It should not be served under any circumstances.
