Fans were shocked this week when it was announced that Gwen Stefani will be leaving The Voice for Season 20, where she has coached alongside her fiance Blake Shelton over five seasons. The singer will be replaced by Nick Jonas, who will return to the show after taking Stefani’s place the last time she left after Season 17.

The big announcement came on November 17 when the Jonas Brothers posted a video to their Instagram account where the three remaining judges speculated on who would be taking Stefani’s place. The trio came upon Nick Jonas meditating and confessing he’s been “living and breathing The Voice since season 18,” in the fun promotional vid.

Stefani herself has not yet spoken out about her reasoning for leaving the popular vocal competition, but if history has anything to say about it, she’ll be back. The star has been a resident coach on The Voice for a total of five seasons, none of which have been consecutive, but she’s always returned with her sharp commentary and empowering coaching style to the fierce competition.

Perhaps during her break this time, Stefani will be busy planning her wedding after recently getting engaged to co-star Blake Shelton, whom she has been dating for the last five years after they met on The Voice in 2014. The singer took to her Instagram story to show off the stunning rock, which is estimated to cost over $500,000.

While Gwen may be leaving to pursue other career ventures during the next season, her fiance will remain on the show as the only coach to stay on The Voice every season since it aired. The pair have been inseparable since their first meeting on set and released a duet at the beginning of this year, proving they work as well together professionally as they do romantically. Congrats to the happy couple and we can’t wait to see what Jonas has been meditating on when he takes the stage for Season 20 of The Voice.
