During the interview, Stefani explained how Shelton proposed, and the engagement definitely came as a surprise to her.
"Wasn't expecting it at the moment that it happened, at all," she said. "Didn't have any idea, nobody knew. I think he had told my dad on my birthday about two weeks earlier."
But that isn't the only thing she let slip.
Apparently, before the proposal, Stefani was questioning where their relationship was going since the country singer had not yet popped the question.
She told Jimmy Fallon, "And I gotta tell you, I was sorta like, What's happening with us?"
Stefani continued, explaining that after five years together, she felt it was time to take that next step.
The singer added, "It was kind of in my mind like, We've been together a long time now. What's going on? I was in that place in my head."
Although she's happy to be engaged now, she did joke that she wished Shelton had proposed before the pandemic.
She explained during the show, "We have no plans because of the pandemic. It's like, Blake, why couldn't you have done it before! Now we can't have a wedding with the pandemic. It's like sitting around going, OK, drag it out more!"
