Gwen Stefani recently posted a tutorial video on her makeup brand GXVE’s Instagram account, showing off her latest products and how to use them. While her fans enjoyed seeing her techniques for applying highlighter, many noticed that her skin seemed “smoother than usual” and accused her of using digital filters to edit her face in the video.
This has sparked an online debate about whether Stefani was being “authentic” by supposedly using these filters or if she is setting “unrealistic standards” for her fans. Read on to find out more about this controversy and what the 53-year-old beauty mogul’s fans are saying about her video.
Earlier this month, Stefani promoted her brand’s new ‘Check My Glow Multi-Dimensional’ highlighter products, and gave fans instructions for applying the shimmery products. In a video, the No Doubt frontwoman can be seen using a brush to add highlighter to her cheekbone.

Gwen Stefani Faces Criticism for ‘Using Filters’ in Instagram Makeup Tutorial
The clip, according to some commenters, appeared pixelated at times and blurry, leading them to believe that she used the app’s filters to make her skin look smoother or more youthful. “Gwen what happened to your authenticity?” one wrote as another fan added: “Would love to see her without a filter.”
Someone else chimed in, writing: “It’s fillers. I love her but would have loved to see her age. Her lips used to be much thinner too.” One other noted: “at her age when you see perfectly smooth skin, absolutely no wrinkles around the eyes, come on! Filters AND edited!”
The “Hollaback Girl” singer is no stranger to this kind of criticism, as fans previously accused her of digitally altering her skin and looking “unrecognizable” in ads for GXVE Beauty last month as well.
Some fans in her comment section, however, praised Stefani’s glow and “ageless beauty.” One wrote: “Glow of dreams!” as another added: “How can she look so young ?? Beautiful always.”
