Gwen Stefani has been known to wear some truly outrageous outfits on stage, on the red carpet, while coaching on The Voice, and in her Instagram posts, so her fans are always prepared to expect the unexpected when it comes to her sartorial choices.

While the 55-year-old “Hollaback Girl” singer has surprised fans by wearing classy and demure outfits in the past – and looking amazing in them, of course! – her fans were shocked to see her wearing an elegant outfit in a video that came with a deeply religious and somewhat controversial promotional message.

Gwen Stefani Wears A Demure White Dress In Religious Instagram Post

The No Doubt frontwoman looked glowing in an elegant white belted pleated wrap dress, which she accessorized with a cross pendant and delicate stud earrings. Her blonde hair was worn in soft waves, while her makeup was also much more minimal than it usually is, finished off with a subtle pink lip as opposed to her signature red lip.

The mom-of-three’s video was posted in partnership with the Hallow App, which has caused some controversy among fans because it reportedly has been backed by the likes of J.D. Vance and Peter Thiel.

The "Luxurious" hitmaker told fans that she will personally be participating in the app's 40-day prayer challenge, Pray40, and explained that she is doing so because she hopes to "grow closer to God" in the lead-up to Easter.

"Ash Wednesday is here. The start of lent—40 days of prayer, fasting, and reflection leading up to Easter. Every year, I try to make this time more intentional, and I'm so excited to do @hallowapp's Pray40 challenge – The Way," she captioned her post.

The "Just a Girl" musician added: "This challenge is all about deepening our faith and remembering what Jesus did for us. it's led by some amazing ppl like @jonathanroumieofficial, @markwahlberg, and @prattprattpratt – and u'll even get to hear my own faith story as part of it."

Fan Comments

Many of the GXVE Beauty mogul's fans were concerned about her promotion of the app. To quote one of her fans on Instagram: "The app has been linked to individuals and groups associated with the Catholic right, including Peter Thiel and J.D. Vance." "Did you know this app is financed by the billionaires club fascist oligarchs JD Vance and Peter Thiel? If you didn't then you do now but if you did, gurrrlll, you're a SELL OUT. And I used to admire you when you were that cool Anaheim punk girl. She's long gone," slammed a second.

"I fear we've lost her. She's gone to the dark side," wrote a third fan. "So she's MAGA too huh," thought a fourth, followed by the teardrop emoji. "From SKA to MAGA. You'll be missed, Gwen," quipped a fifth. "Girl bye – what happened to you?" asked a sixth disappointed fan. "Gwen is gone. What a massive disappointment," concurred a seventh, as someone else said: "Paying money to pray sounds like a literal scam."

However, not all fans felt the same way. "Not all Catholics are Trump supporters," noted one, followed by the eye rolling emoji. "Love this!" exclaimed another, while another supporter said: "Love seeing you join in prayer!"
