You are facing a dilemma. Your iPhone is lost AND it also just so happens to have a dead battery. There goes any hope of finding it via anything other than an AirTag.

Actually, hold that thought. Newer devices are equipped with a cool feature that will make it possible to locate your iPhone, even after you’ve forgotten to charge it and it’s nowhere to be found. Tech experts swear by this hack for finding your iPhone when the battery is dead. And, once you learn this trick, you’ll never again worry about misplacing your device.

Find My App

Gone are the days when you had to attach an AirTag to your device and hope for the best (AirTag technology, though amazing and helpful, has also been used by criminals to track victims). As long as you own an iPhone 11, 12, or 13, and it must be running on iOS 15, you can use a feature called Find My App to track your phone, no matter its battery status. From there, all you have to do is rely on your Apple Watch, iPad, or MacBook and use Find My App to track your phone and force it to emit a sound that will lead you to it. If you don’t have another Apple device, you can even use a web browser. Go to iCloud. com, locate Find iPhone, sign in again, click on All Devices, and then click on your phone to track it.

Of course, the first thing you need to do (like, right away) is enable Find My App on your iPhone. On your iPhone, open Settings > [your name] > Find My. If you’re asked to sign in, enter your Apple ID. Now simply tap Find My iPhone, then slide the toggle next to Find My iPhone to the right to enable it.

And there you have it: one less reason to worry when your phone is under a couch cushion and hanging by a thread to 4% battery power.
