Hailey Bieber recently opened up about her mental health struggles—and strides!—in honor of Mental Health Awareness month. The 25-year-old model shared a video on YouTube last Tuesday discussing how she deals with anxiety, including her experience with therapy.

“Therapy is something that’s been a part of my life for the past four years,” Bieber shared. However, she wasn’t always completely on board with the idea. “It’s something that I felt not sure in the beginning,” she admitted.

“I have a really hard time admitting when I’m going through a hard time,” Bieber continued. Luckily, the star said she’s learning to embrace vulnerability: “The older that I get I’m learning and still developing being able to be really vulnerable and open instead of trying to have it all together all the time.”

Now that Bieber has been in therapy for some time, it sounds like it’s been an incredible experience for her—in fact, she says it’s been a game changer! “The more I’ve grown my relationship with my therapist, it has been such a game changer for me and it’s a space where I feel really safe to be able to talk about what’s going on in my mind, say things out loud, and feel safe and not feel judged,” she said. We love that! It’s refreshing to see a celebrity get so candid about mental health.

The star encouraged others to speak to a therapist as well if they are able to, although she understands it’s not accessible to everyone. “I feel very grateful and very privileged to be able to afford it,” Bieber said.

The model said that talking to someone she trusts is just one of the things she does to “check in” with herself as she deals with anxiety. Other methods in her personal toolkit include spending time in nature and practicing calming breathing exercises.

Bieber also discussed her personal struggles with social media. “I’m somebody who struggles with people-pleasing and really wanting everybody to like me and caring a lot about what people have to say and what they think,” she admitted, noting that even though social media is a great way to connect with people, all the “negativity” and comments from millions of followers can be “taxing” on her mental health. However, she’s taking measures to look out for herself and prioritize a positive relationship with the internet. “I’m in a space where I’m trying to have the healthiest relationship with social media that I can,” she said.

The star also wanted viewers on their own mental health journeys to know that they’re not alone, and should reach out for help whenever they need to. “Just know, I understand and we’re all in it together,” she said. “You’re not alone in what you go through, ever.” Aw!
