Being in the spotlight all the time means that Hailey Bieber has to work hard to make time for herself and her mental health. The model has received her fair share of “negative attention” throughout her years in the spotlight, which came to a head when she married Justin Bieber in September 2018. Although the two lovebirds seem nothing but happy when they’re around each other, both have faced their own mental health challenges that come with stardom.

Recently, Hailey opened up about these challenges (and how she fosters her mental health) during an interview with the Going for The Gold podcast from Women’s Health UK. Throughout the interview, Hailey touched on the different ways she approaches her mental wellbeing–whether it be therapy or exercise.

Therapy helps Hailey handle online bullies

According to Hailey, one of the most important parts of taking care of herself is seeing a therapist on a regular basis, which has particularly helped her handle public criticism and online trolls.

She explained, "The way that I've dealt with a lot of the negative attention, lies, and just media in general is I've talked a lot through with a therapist, and I do therapy consistently. I think that being able to process those things and process those feelings has helped a lot."

Critics on social media presented an especially difficult challenge for Hailey, a self-proclaimed "perfectionist." The 24-year-old explained that she often felt like she "had to explain [herself]" to strangers online.

Therapy has become a helpful tool for the star in learning not to let these people (or their hurtful words) get to her.

"I just realized that there's people on the internet that want to just hate you because they are not happy with themselves," she said. "The more I've been able to break that down with a therapist [and] the more I realize it has nothing to do with me, or my personal character, I felt a lot more freedom."

Justin's support doesn't hurt either

Her marriage has also helped her deal with the public scrutiny, considering Justin has been in the limelight since the age of 13.

"I'm also married to someone that's been dealing with this a lot longer than I have, to an extreme, like the highest level it could possibly be," she explained. "I think being able to share that world with somebody that understands it even better than I do has been so helpful."

Hailey also relies on faith and exercise to feel her best

Most people know the benefits of meditation when it comes to mental health, and for Hailey that takes place as praying. She explained, "I think for me, meditation a lot of the time, means praying. My beliefs are a very big part of my life, and my faith is a very big part of my life."

She continued, "I think being able to take all of the burdens I feel and being able to release that and pray about it…and to have my own conversation with God, and being able to let it go that way, is extremely important to me and extremely helpful."

In addition to keeping her mind healthy and happy, Hailey also uses exercise--a combination of Pilates and boxing is her go-to--to feel like her strongest self. The model explained, "Exercise is another thing that keeps my mind and my body really healthy."
