The winter can zap all moisture out of your hair, no matter the texture or length. Hair stylist and owner of Vincent Hair Artistry, Vincent De Marco recommends tossing your hair up into a bun to prevent breakage from the brittle cold. He says, “Winter hair tends to dry the hair out, so wearing your hair in a loosely tied bun is a great way to lock in moisture and maintain healthy, shiny, beautiful hair throughout the winter months.”
While breakage can occur in your daily activities, it’s important to consider your hair at night as well. If you aim to keep your hair as healthy as possible, De Marco recommends wearing your hair in a bun when you sleep. He remarks, “Wearing your hair in a bun while you sleep prevents tangling, breakage, and matting, I suggest tying your hair loosely at the top of your head.” He adds that cloth or fabric hair ties are your best bet, so they won’t tear out any of your hair when it’s time to take the bun out.
Wearing your hair in a bun can prevent breakage and tangling, but Terra Harvell, CEO of Harper Ellis Hair Co., explains one other surprising reason why you should be keeping your hair up during the winter months. Harvell says, “You should wear your hair in a bun this winter to mask the fact that you are actually moisturizing it. Coat the ends with a nourishing oil or leave-in conditioner, then put it in a sleek bun. No one will know you’re actually treating your hair!”
A good hair day can do wonders for your mood and self-esteem. Especially during the winter, it’s important to do everything you can to ensure you’re feeling your best, and sometimes that’s as simple as looking your best. Toss your hair up in a bun for an effortlessly chic look that not only allows you to moisturize your hair, but will also prevent your strands from breakage and tangling all winter long!
