The One Vitamin You Should Have Right Before Bed For Hair Loss

Hair loss can be the result of many factors, from genetics to diet to hair products, but incorporating certain vitamins into your regular routine can help keep your hair strong and potentially prevent hair shedding, breakage, and loss.

Specifically, adding biotin to your routine can be beneficial to keeping your hair healthy and strong.

Biotin

Biotin is one of the more popular vitamins for hair loss.

According to WebMD, "Biotin, also known as vitamin B7, stimulates keratin production in hair and can increase the rate of follicle growth. It is not stored for long in the body - most of yours is from the foods you eat. In order to be effective, it needs to be consumed."

However, unless biotin deficiency is your problem, a biotin supplement is unlikely to help your specific case.

"Biotin supplementation may be helpful for people who are truly biotin-deficient, but biotin deficiency is quite rare amongst the general population," Gary Linkov, MD, a facial plastic surgeon and hair restoration specialist at City Facial Plastics, tells WebMD.

Iron

Iron is another vitamin that may help when it comes to hair loss, especially if you are iron deficient.

Healthline explains, "When you don’t have enough iron, your body can’t produce the hemoglobin in your blood. Hemoglobin carries oxygen for the growth and repair of cells in your body, including the cells that stimulate hair growth."

Although both of these vitamins may help keep your hair healthy, the best way to handle hair loss is to consult a professional. A dermatologist or trichologist can help identify the cause of your hair loss, which can help them create a treatment option to target your specific concerns.
